Peel-Off Window Clings for a Gothic Apartment Entryway
- Attaches with Static or removable adhesive
- Damage risk Low
- Best for Cheapest effect
Window clings are the cheapest way to add silhouettes: bare branches, bats and a crescent moon. They stick by static to glass, so they leave no residue and come off in seconds.
What you will need
- Black window clings or removable decals (branches, bats, moon, spiders)
- A glass surface: a window beside the door, a sidelight, or a storm door
- A glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth
- Optional: a small light behind the glass
How to hang it
- Clean the glass thoroughly. Dust or grease stops static clings from sticking.
- Plan the layout before you peel: lay the clings out on a table in the shape you want.
- Peel each cling and press from the center outward to remove bubbles.
- Place a large silhouette (the branches) first, then scatter bats and the moon around it.
- Check from the hallway side and from the inside, since some designs look best from one side only.
Where it goes
Placement. Use a window you can reach easily, within 15 to 48 inches or a bit higher for large pieces. Do not cover the whole glass if the window is your only daylight.
Damage and take-down
Static clings come off clean. Adhesive decals can leave a film on some surfaces, so use them only on smooth glass and remove them within a few weeks.
Mistakes to avoid
- Putting decals on a painted or textured surface where they will not stick.
- Covering the peephole or a safety window.
- Applying clings on a cold, wet window.
Make it better
Place a small LED light behind the window so the silhouettes glow at night.
Where to buy
Amazon links; check the product page against the notes before you order.
- Black window clings (static cling, glass only)
Safety for every piece
- Check your lease and building rules. Some buildings limit what may hang in shared hallways or on doors.
- Do not cover the peephole, the number plate or the smoke detector, and keep decor off sprinkler heads and fire exits.
- Keep the walking path clear and wide enough for a wheelchair. Decor mounted between 15 and 48 inches from the floor sits within the ADA reach range, which also helps if you use a wheelchair.
- Check the weight rating on every adhesive hook before you hang a wreath or any heavier piece.
