Faux Ravens for a Gothic Apartment Entryway
- Attaches with Removable hook or a shelf
- Damage risk Low
- Best for Best for texture
Ravens say gothic faster than any other prop. A pair on a shelf or ledge looks like a quiet warning, and they are light enough to need no hardware.
What you will need
- Two or three faux black ravens or crows (foam or feathered)
- A narrow shelf, door-top ledge or a small console
- Removable adhesive putty or a small removable hook
- Optional: a branch or a bit of faux moss
How to hang it
- Check the weight and the base of each bird. Choose spots where they can sit flat.
- Place the largest raven at the high point and a smaller one lower, facing a different direction.
- Secure each one on its perch with a small piece of removable adhesive putty so it does not fall if someone bumps it.
- Add a faux branch or a few leaves for context.
- Step back and check from the doorway: ravens should be visible from the hallway.
Where it goes
Placement. Pick a shelf or ledge between 15 and 48 inches from the floor if you want to reach them easily. A door-top ledge is more dramatic, but you will need a stool or help to set them.
Damage and take-down
Adhesive putty can leave a mark on some finishes, so test a hidden spot first. A shelf placement leaves nothing at all.
Mistakes to avoid
- Ravens on an unstable ledge where they can fall on someone.
- Heavy props that need real mounting.
- Placing them where the swinging door will hit them.
Make it better
Hang one raven from a short length of black ribbon beside the door, and add a single faux feather scattered on the doormat.

Safety for every piece
- Check your lease and building rules. Some buildings limit what may hang in shared hallways or on doors.
- Do not cover the peephole, the number plate or the smoke detector, and keep decor off sprinkler heads and fire exits.
- Keep the walking path clear and wide enough for a wheelchair. Decor mounted between 15 and 48 inches from the floor sits within the ADA reach range, which also helps if you use a wheelchair.
- Check the weight rating on every adhesive hook before you hang a wreath or any heavier piece.
